Queen of Hearts …#1…Reine des Coeurs

Step One : The body

The Queen shall be a bit big, aboud 50cm tall.

The body is a recycling exercice : corrugated cardboad, paper strips from an old magazine, and white glue to put everything together. It is a slow step with drying sessions every now and then.

Back to Crafts! …

dot-blue

It was one of those things that happen nearly on their own. I applied (and got accepted) to a Master in business strategy and management! Distant learning at night and during the week end of course as I need to work and look after daughter, house, dogs, fish, … during normal hours.

Six months later : (very) late with my thesis writing and not one single craft during all that time.

So today I’m back to craft and I’m starting with the Queen of Hearts as I’ve got inspired by the dool of Judy Skeel

I’m back on the blog … too much to do and to little hours in a day! :-(

The owl is made from a vintage woolen fabric and 100% cotton. I’ve used felt for the eyes, the beak and the feet and I added two buttons to complete the eyes.

A tall and slim patchwork doll

img_1474amimg_1480amA patchwork rag doll

If you are like me and love fabric, I’m sure your drawers and craft boxes are full with pieces of fabric!

Over the years I have accumulated quite an impressive stock. Some are so old that they are Vintage!!!

And guess what : I saw all those beautiful new collections for spring and summer that I’m dying to get. But I try (and sometimes succeed) to be organised and a bit reasonable. No I won’t order any new fabric before I’ve used, not all – a life time job !- but some of what I have already in store.

And there starts THE question: which one shall I use? I have those that I liked only the day I bought them, and ignore them since then.

There are those that I love so much that I never use them, waiting for the right project for them- no idea when this will be.

And the rest.

I made a selection from the 3 groups (yessss) and ended up with 10 fabrics in the blue and green shades.

I cut a ‘slice’ of it: not too much of those I don’t like, and not too much of my favourite ones either! Then ironing of a stabilizer on each piece and there I go, assembling them all together.

All right, now I’m ready. First I decided to make a small pouch – almost a cube- to store small sewing items while on the Go, and a pincushion quite bigger than the tiny small we usually see, so we can have more than 20 pins!

After this I decided that instead of using what was left for a scissor case, I would prefer a rag doll. Well the piece of patchwork left was long and narrow, so the doll is VERY tall and VERY slim! It is in my Etsy boutique here!
